The steam locomotive was the machine that powered the industrial boom, westward expansion, and urban development of the twentieth century. As the first fast, reliable means of transporting goods, trains revolutionized how business was conducted in America, and in other countries around the world. Though the train has been replaced by airplanes and diesel trucks in the United States as a means of transporting goods, it is still often used to carry passengers. Train travel is a fun way to experience the industrial age without having to put down your cell phone or IPod.
Not all areas of the country will have active passenger trains, but it often isn’t difficult to arrange train travel for those desiring a fun and exciting experience. Most of all, kids absolutely love it.
